The ChildrenENCODE project focus on emerging zoonosis and their interactions with environmental pollutants, particularly glyphosate in seafood and coastal people living near banana plantations, as it’s sprayed in airplanes near estuarine areas with shrimp farms and homes nearb y. , antimicrobial resistance, obesity, diabetes, and health effect of pollutants on neuro-development and congenital malformations like microcephaly, anencephaly, and others.
At the NSA meeting in Charlotte, NC, speakers will address  the promises and challenges of toxico-epigenomics; environmental chemicals and their impacts on people epigenomes; glyphosate’s impact on great-grand children’s health: exposed before birth, generational impacts, cancer (non-Hodgkin lymphoma), endocrine disruptor, gut microbiome disruptor, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; metals in blood of people from 5 coastal provinces of Ecuador, metals in hair of mothers of children with congenital malformations, antimicrobial resistance, association of EDCs with chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes; allergies, one health epidemiology: coronavirus in wastewater of coastal provinces of Ecuador;

the incorporation of epigenetic effects in environmental, human and non-model species health risk assessments. The technologies needed to test our hypothesis of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance (TGEI) in nature will be discussed at the end of the workshop, as well as a new cohort to test the hypothesis.
EGI will support travel and NSA membership for a total of 30 students, postdocts/research associates, NGOs and senior volunteers to attend the NSA meeting in Charlotte, NC, March 21-26, 2021. Awardees representing 9 countries (Belgium 1, China 2, Ecuador 11, India 1, Iraq 1, Malaysia 1, Mexico 9, Philippines 1, USA 3) will be recognized by the FUCOBI Foundation of Ecuador as winners of the 2020-2021 ‘Johnnie Castro Montealegre Student Travel Awards’.

Six scientists will be recognized as OUTSTANDING ONE HEALTH RESEARCHERS IN AQUACULTURE at the 2021 NSA meeting in Charlotte, NC: Ana Ibarra (Mexico), Jianhai Xiang and Suhua Shi (China), Kathy Tang, Sandra Shumway and Irina Arkhipova (USA). They join other researchers: Tim Flegel (Thailand), Jurgenne Primavera (Philippines), Weidong Bao and Ximing Guo (USA), who received similar awards at the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) meeting on February 2019.

Our special appreciation to Dr. Sandra Shumway for welcoming the shrimp group to the NSA meetings and supporting our international 'One Health' educational effort through the ‘ONE HEALTH Epigenomics and Microbiomes: From Soil to People' workshop and posters session. This holistic One Health concept is now supported by the U.S. Senate to promote collaboration between public, animal and environmental health scientists:
